It's Better to Keep One's Mouth Closed and Be Thought an Idiot...

Okay, so I just browsed through the brand new Newsweek.

Howard Fineman has a brief piece on the upcoming VP debate. In it, he asked the folks who prepped the last two veep candidates for their debates for some friendly advice.

Republican Stewart Stevens, who advised The Dark Lord in 2004, had this to say to Ms. Palin.

Her goal should be to not make news. And that means when Biden attacks, or the moderator's questions are detailed, she should not respond at length. Instead, she should focus on her personality.

Time to complete that maxim: "...than to open it and remove all doubt."

Wow. This man is specifically advising her not to talk about anything of substance. Because, of course, she can't. These people have officially given up on this albatross.

Just stand there and look pretty! And people are calling this woman a feminist candidate. Hell, calling her a viable, serious candidate. GAH!

I'm TOTALLY clearing my schedule for Thursday night. I generally skip debates (I go for the highlight reels the next day), but I can't wait to see the train wreck in person.

I skipped the presidential debate but I am SO going to watch the VP debate - I need a good laugh.

I'm dialing down my expectations for the debate on Thursday. Odds are, it won't be a complete catastrophe. She'll probably come across as just not very good, as opposed to a complete embarrassment.

We've dealt with low expectations before (GWB in 2000) and when that happens, the person in question only has to get through the hour-and-a-half without wetting their pants and proclaiming their love for stabbing puppies for their supporters to call it a success.

And they're prepping for this already.

Yes, I think you're right. But I'll still be watching for glimmers of stupidity.

She may be completely silent. Hell, she may pay Tina Fey to stand in for her. At least that'd be funny.
